The House That Moved Up and Down

A During the drought years of 1989 to 1990 a thirsty Lombardy Poplar tree drained the foundations of a house dry causing the property to subside.

The cause of the problem was identified and the tree was cut down. Whilst proceedings were instigated, a period of monitoring was carried out.

During the winter of 1994/5 however a most strange phenomenon occurred. The combination of record rainfall and the absence of our thirsty tree meant that the land 'heaved a sigh' and the house promptly floated back into position! The problem was resolved by an 'act of God'.

Despite the insurance company's intransigence, Natural Justice prevailed !!!
